Bermuda shorts

Trousers

Tropical classic
The bermuda – the iconic knee-length short – owes its name to the Bermuda Islands, themselves named after Spanish explorer Juan Bermúdez. Around 1950, British soldiers stationed in this tropical overseas territory of the UK adopted the short, practical trousers as part of their uniform: khaki-colored, with large back pockets, and breezy enough for the hot climate. What began as military tropical dress was soon picked up by American tourists, who found the shorts both stylish and comfortable. From there, the bermuda made its way onto cruise ships, into resort wear, and eventually into everyday fashion. Today, it suits relaxed summer days just as well as casual chic – when styled with care.
