What would a panama hat be without that distinctive black ribbon band, the boater hat without his recognizable doppio nastro and the Tyrolean hat without that characteristic coloured cord wrapped around the body? Cowboy hats are often finished with a decorative belt made of horsehair or processed leather. All over the world, hat bands are designed differently. The classic western hat for example, is not complete without a ribbon band with side bow. In South America we can see very frivolous hat bands made of colourful beads and feathers. In other words: a hat is only finished with the right hat band. That small strip of fabric just makes the difference!
