A soap, shoe polish or shampoo: for many hotel guests it is no more than normal to take these free products from the room home. The Dutch fashion designer Daryl van Wouw once confessed in an interview that he cannot leave a hotel without putting the slippers in his bag. And he is not the only one who has this thing with hotel stuff. According to hotel shoe collector (yes, they exist!) Ivo Weyel – nephew of Jort Kelder – it is permissible to put hotel slippers in your suitcase, unlike the bathrobe or umbrella that you have to leave for the next guests. The white towelling slip-on with the hotel logo embroidered on the toe is a frequently used promotional item. Often they are not washable and therefore for single use.
