Burberry check

Patterns and motifs

Reputational damage
For generations the Burberry check was synonymous with class. Until British football hooligans, and later the chavs gave this motif a tacky reputation. The fashion house subsequently ended to produce the distinctive checkered baseball cap. Initially this Scottish tartan, also known as Haymarket check, was only used by Burberry as lining for trenchcoats from 1924. Since 1967 also accessories such as bags, scarves and umbrellas where adorned with this camel pattern with black, white and red stripes. Worldwide, it is one of the most copied trademarks. This brings the design really everywhere: from the black market to expensive shopping streets such as Champs-Élysées in Paris.
