Cateye glasses

Glasses

Monroe-style
Chic, feminine and a little eccentric. Cateye glasses were born in the 1930s, after the American trendsetter Altina Schinasi walked past an optician's office and noticed how few stylish options there were for women. Inspired by Venetian masks, she designed glasses with an exaggerated and upswept frame, later called cateye because the silhouette mimics that of a cat's eye. This style became a real fashion trend in the 1950s, when Marilyn Monroe wore one in the movie How to Marry a Millionaire (1953). In Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961), Audrey Hepburn paired Oliver Goldsmith's Manhattan sunglasses with a Little Black Dress. Inspired by these style icons, the cateye glasses are now completely back.
